President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has transmitted the 2026–2028 Medium-Term Expenditure Framework (MTEF) and Fiscal Strategy Paper (FSP) to the National Assembly, requesting prompt legislative approval to guide the federal government’s fiscal direction for the next three years.
The Deputy Senate President, Barau Jibrin, read the President’s letter during Thursday’s plenary.
According to the letter, the documents were endorsed by the Federal Executive Council (FEC) at its meeting of December 3, 2025. The President noted that the 2026 national budget will be prepared strictly in line with the parameters and assumptions contained in the approved MTEF and FSP.
He urged lawmakers to give the submission expeditious consideration to ensure timely commencement of the budget process.
Following the reading of the communication, the Senate referred the documents to its Committee on Finance and mandated the panel to report back on December 17.
