Tinubu Moves to Reconcile APC Aspirants, Orders Review of Oralusi’s Disqualification

 

A major step toward dousing tensions within the All Progressives Congress (APC) played out yesterday as President Bola Ahmed Tinubu (GCFR) met with key party leaders and aspirants, appealing for unity and ordering a review of the alleged disqualification of Hon. Dr Heretar Babatunde Oralusi.

The high-level consultative meeting, held in Abuja on Tuesday, brought together prominent figures including the Minister of Marine and Blue Economy, Adegboyega Oyetola; APC National Chairman, Prof. Nentawe Yilwatda; Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Senator George Akume; and Chairman of the Progressive Governors’ Forum (PGF), Governor Hope Uzodimma.

According to a statement issued by Oralusi, the President used the session to underscore the importance of internal cohesion, warning against divisive actions capable of undermining the party’s prospects. He cited lessons from the last governorship election, insisting that harmony, fairness, and adherence to party supremacy must guide the conduct of all aspirants.

Tinubu also addressed issues surrounding zoning, the consensus model, and the need to uphold equity and justice across party structures.

Oralusi said he raised concerns over what he described as his “unjust disqualification” and defended the political interests of the Ife constituency. The President was said to have given immediate assurances, directing the APC National Chairman to take swift action on the matter. Tinubu reportedly reaffirmed his attachment to the constituency, stating, “We are all from Ife, and I will do everything to protect the interest.”

Following the President’s intervention, Oralusi announced his alignment with all resolutions reached at the meeting, pledging total loyalty to the party’s leadership and processes. He emphasized that the collective interest of the APC must take precedence at this critical moment.

He expressed gratitude to his supporters across Osun State, including party executives at all levels, youth and women groups, and stakeholders in the Ife zone. Oralusi reiterated that his long-term vision for a better society remained unchanged and that all scheduled programmes would continue.

He also commended President Tinubu for his “unwavering commitment to building a better Nigeria,” while appreciating Oyetola, Yilwatda, Akume, Uzodimma, and fellow aspirants for their contributions to the reconciliation efforts.

“Long live the All Progressives Congress. Long live Osun State. Long live the Federal Republic of Nigeria,” the statement concluded.
