Tinubu Brokers Peace, Oyebamiji Emerges APC Consensus Candidate for Osun 2026

In a remarkable display of political stewardship, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu on Tuesday called on All Progressives Congress (APC) governorship aspirants to set aside personal ambitions and unite ahead of the 2026 Osun gubernatorial election.

The closed-door meeting at the Presidential Villa was described by participants as “constructive, reassuring, and a moment of reflection.”

Addressing the aspirants, President Tinubu stressed that the party’s strength lies in unity. “APC’s path to victory depends on discipline, cohesion, and putting the party above self,” he told the gathering, earning nods and quiet agreement from many aspirants.

The session, which lasted several hours, provided aspirants with a rare chance to discuss concerns and seek clarity on the party’s nomination process. President Tinubu assured that all aspirants would have their names cleared, reflecting the party’s commitment to fairness and internal democracy.

All aspirants attended except Senator Iyiola Omisore, who was notably absent.

By the end of deliberations, a consensus emerged: Asiwaju Bola Oyebamiji was declared the APC’s flag bearer for the Osun governorship race. While specific agreements remain confidential, observers noted a renewed spirit of collaboration among the aspirants.

One participant described the meeting as “a moment of humility and shared responsibility,” emphasizing that the President’s message encouraged aspirants to think beyond personal interest and embrace collective goals.

Political analysts say Tinubu’s intervention may significantly strengthen APC’s campaign in Osun, reducing the risk of internal friction that has historically affected party primaries. For many party members and supporters, the meeting not only settled leadership questions but also rekindled a sense of purpose and unity in the run-up to 2026.
