US Delegation Tasks FG on ‘Concrete Action’ After Security Talks with Ribadu

 

A visiting United States Congressional delegation has disclosed key outcomes of its high-level security meeting with Nigerian government officials, emphasizing the need for “concrete action” to match Abuja’s assurances.

The delegation, which arrived in Abuja on Sunday, was received by the National Security Adviser (NSA), Mallam Nuhu Ribadu, as part of ongoing diplomatic engagements driven by concerns in Washington over alleged large-scale attacks on Christian communities.

In a statement on Monday, Riley Moore, Congressman for West Virginia’s Second District and a member of the delegation, described the discussions with Nigerian authorities as “productive and positive”.

According to him, both sides examined “concrete steps and actionable plans” which, if fully implemented, would strengthen security across the country and improve protection for all citizens.

Moore noted what he called the Nigerian government’s “openness and willingness” to partner with the United States in addressing persistent security challenges.
However, he stressed that such openness “must translate into concrete action”.

He commended President Bola Tinubu’s administration for the rescue of 100 abducted Catholic schoolchildren, describing the operation as a “positive indication” of improved responsiveness under the President’s emergency security framework.

“The United States’ sense of urgency on our concerns was positively received,” he said, adding that a cooperative security structure was “within sight”, particularly with the establishment of a joint Nigeria–US task force.

While acknowledging that “much work remains”, the US lawmaker expressed optimism about sustained dialogue and deepening collaboration between both nations.
