Osun Speaker, Lawmakers Disrupt PDP Guber Primary, Accuse Makinde of Interference

The Speaker of the Osun State House of Assembly, Hon. Adewale Egbedun, on Tuesday led a team of lawmakers and aides to the venue of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) governorship primary, resulting in a confrontation with officials of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) and party stakeholders.

Egbedun, accompanied by the Deputy Speaker, Hon. Akinyode Oyewusi, and several other lawmakers, stormed the Adolak Event Centre moments after the declaration of the primary winner, openly rejecting the conduct of the exercise.

A video trending across social media platforms captured the Speaker pointing angrily at the INEC Public Relations Officer, Mr. Musa Olurode—who was dressed in blue native attire—before one of the Speaker’s aides allegedly assaulted the official. The Deputy Speaker quickly stepped in to halt the altercation.

Upon entering the hall, the visibly furious Speaker declared that those present had no legitimate authority to conduct a party primary on Osun soil.

Addressing journalists shortly after the incident, Egbedun issued a stern warning to Oyo State Governor, Seyi Makinde, accusing him of attempting to use Osun as a testing ground for larger political ambitions.

He said:
“I am the Speaker of Osun State, a leader in my state, and in the PDP. We were on the floor of the House when we got calls that people from Oyo had come here to conduct what they call a primary—nothing but a drama.”

He explained that PDP stakeholders in the state were expecting a properly communicated congress, only to be informed of its postponement before witnessing what he described as an unauthorized gathering.

Egbedun warned:
“This is a message to Gov. Seyi Makinde. If he is desperate to become President in 2027, he should look elsewhere, not Osun. We are bona fide PDP members. We have 25 House members, five Reps, and senator No governor from another state will dictate to us. We won’t accept that.”

Insisting that there was no official notice for any congress, the Speaker vowed that Osun PDP leaders would meet to decide on the next course of action.

“We won’t take this anymore. They came here to stage a drama, and this marks the end of it,” he declared.
