Osun Governor Orders 24-Hour Curfew in Igbajo Amid Lawlessness

The Osun State Government has imposed a 24-hour curfew on Igbajo town in Boluwaduro Local Government Area following a breakdown of law and order that persisted from Sunday night into the early hours of Monday.

According to intelligence from the office of the Special Adviser to the Governor on Security, Barr. Samuel Ojo, the unrest was linked to tensions surrounding the recent death of Prince Adegboyega Famodun, who passed away last Saturday after a brief illness.

Governor Ademola Adeleke, who described the situation as “deeply shocking,” announced the immediate lockdown of Igbajo through a statement issued by the Commissioner for Information and Public Enlightenment, Oluomo Kolapo Alimi.

The commissioner said, “Governor Adeleke has condemned the development and affirmed that his administration will never be a party to any untoward civil disobedience capable of truncating the peace and harmony currently being enjoyed across Osun State, including Igbajo.”

He added that the governor had directed a contingent of security personnel—including the Army, Police, DSS, and the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC)—to maintain round-the-clock surveillance until normalcy is restored.

“It is with deep shock and dismay that I received the sad news of the breakdown of law and order in Igbajo last night. As a government that upholds total compliance with the rule of law, we will not fold our arms to allow disorder anywhere in the state,” Governor Adeleke said.

The governor also extended his condolences to the family of the late Prince Adegboyega Famodun and the people of Igbajo, praying that “his gentle soul rest in perfect peace.”

The 24-hour curfew takes effect immediately and will remain in force until authorities are satisfied that peace has returned to the community.
