Three personnel of the Nigeria Immigration Service (NIS) were shot dead on Thursday night after gunmen, believed to be members of the Lakurawa armed group, launched an attack on an operational checkpoint at Bakin Ruwa in Bagudu Local Government Area of Kebbi State.
The assailants reportedly stormed the area in large numbers, opening fire on the officers before setting their patrol vehicle ablaze. The makeshift shelter at the checkpoint was also destroyed in the incident.
A security analyst, Bakatsine, drew attention to the attack in a post on X, sharing a video clip showing the aftermath. He stated:
“Yesterday night, gunmen suspected to be Lakurawa attacked a Nigeria Immigration Service checkpoint in Bakin Ruwa, Bagudu LGA of Kebbi State. They killed three officers, set a vehicle ablaze, and destroyed the shelter area during the attack.”
He also raised concerns about the rising insecurity and questioned what measures communities and authorities should adopt to enhance safety in vulnerable locations.
The incident adds to the growing security concerns in Kebbi and neighbouring states, where attacks on security personnel and rural communities have persisted despite ongoing operations.
