Tinubu Unveils Plan for Massive Ward-Level Enterprise Rollout at G20

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has outlined an ambitious economic stimulation programme that will see the establishment of 1,000 functional enterprises in each of Nigeria’s 8,809 wards, a move the administration believes will ignite grassroots productivity and expand job opportunities nationwide.

Tinubu’s message was delivered by Vice-President Kashim Shettima at the G20 Summit in Johannesburg, South Africa, where he reaffirmed Nigeria’s commitment to sweeping economic reforms and deeper engagement with global financial institutions.

The President said the initiative—anchored on skills development, local empowerment and enterprise creation—forms a central pillar of his administration’s strategy to rebuild the economy from the bottom up.

According to him, current global financial structures no longer reflect today’s economic realities, urging the G20 to lead a push for equity-driven reforms that can ease debt pressures on developing nations and unlock sustainable financing.

Tinubu maintained that Nigeria has become increasingly attractive to foreign investors, crediting this to fiscal policy adjustments aimed at improving the ease of doing business.

He also acknowledged the World Trade Organization’s support programmes, particularly the Women Exporters in the Digital Economy Fund, which has provided grants and technical training to female entrepreneurs.

While stressing the urgency of mobilising long-term financing for development priorities, the President warned that mounting debt burdens threaten economic stability across Africa and could create wider global vulnerabilities if not addressed.

Tinubu urged the G20 to adopt policies that strengthen financial inclusion, deepen risk management systems, and encourage investment in indigenous production and export expansion across the continent.

Nigeria, he added, stands ready for increased inflow of foreign direct and portfolio investments and is building the institutional framework required to support such engagement.
