FG Orders Immediate Closure of 41 Unity Colleges Over Rising Insecurity

The Federal Government has ordered the immediate shutdown of 41 Federal Government Colleges nationwide following renewed attacks and abductions of schoolchildren in parts of Kebbi and Niger states.

The directive was contained in a circular referenced FME/DSSE/GM/S.160/CII, issued by the Director of Senior Secondary Education, Hajia Binta Abdulkadir, and dispatched to principals of all Federal Unity Colleges on Friday.

According to the circular, the move became necessary “in view of the recent security breaches and the urgent need to forestall further attacks on students and school facilities.”

The Minister of Education, the circular stated, approved the closure with immediate effect, directing principals of affected schools to ensure full compliance without delay.

The affected colleges include FGGC Minjibir, Federal Technical College Ganduje, FGGC Zaria, FTC Kafanchan, FGGC Bakori, FTC Dayi, FGC Daura, FGGC Tambuwal, FSC Sokoto, FTC Wurno, FGC Gusau, FGC Anka, FGGC Gwandu, FGC Birnin Yauri, FTC Zuru, and FGGC Kazaure.

Others are FGC Kiyawa, FTC Hadejia, FGGC Bida, FGC New Bussa, FTC Kuta-Shiroro, Federal Government Academy Suleja, FGC Ilorin, FGGC Omu-Aran, FTC Gwanara, FGC Ugwolawo, FGGC Kabba, FTC Ogugu, FGGC Bwari, FGC Rubochi, FGGC Abaji, FGGC Potiskum, FGC Buni Yadi, FTC Gashua, FTC Michika, FGC Ganye, FGC Azare, FTC Misau, FGGC Bajoga, FGC Billiri, and FTC Zambuk.

The closures come amid heightened concerns over the safety of students as armed groups intensify attacks on schools in the northern region.
