BREAKING: Court Hands Nnamdi Kanu Life Term After Terrorism Conviction

In a dramatic ruling on Thursday, the Federal High Court in Abuja sentenced the leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), Nnamdi Kanu, to life imprisonment after finding him guilty under the Terrorism Prevention and Prohibition Act.

Justice James Omotosho delivered the verdict following an intense session that saw the court convict Kanu on several terrorism-related charges. The judge noted that the severity of the offences ordinarily carries the death penalty but stated that the court opted for a life sentence “in the interest of justice and mercy.”

Proceedings were briefly suspended after the conviction, with Justice Omotosho calling for a recess before reconvening to pronounce the final sentence.

The sentencing followed heated arguments by both prosecution and defence teams, with the court ruling that the prosecution had successfully established the allegations against the IPOB leader.
