Bayelsa State Deputy Governor, Senator Lawrence Ewhrudjakpo, has died at the age of 60.
Ewhrudjakpo was said to have collapsed in his office on Thursday afternoon and was rushed to the Federal Medical Centre (FMC), Yenagoa, at about 1:30 p.m.
He was taken into the emergency unit and later moved to the Intensive Care Unit (ICU), where doctors battled to stabilise him. All efforts, however, proved unsuccessful.
His media aide, Doubara Atasi, confirmed the incident but declined further comments. Hospital sources also said the deputy governor received prompt medical attention but could not be revived.
Born on September 5, 1965, Ewhrudjakpo had served as deputy governor of Bayelsa State since 2020.
