Tinubu Expresses Sorrow Over Kebbi Schoolgirls’ Abduction, Death of Borno General

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has expressed deep sorrow over the abduction of schoolgirls in Kebbi State and the killing of soldiers, including Brigadier General Musa Uba, in Borno State.

Speaking on Tuesday, the President said he was “depressed” by the incidents and confirmed that Vice President Kashim Shettima will visit Kebbi State on Wednesday to sympathise with the state government and reassure the families of the abducted girls of the Federal Government’s commitment to securing their safe return.

Tinubu also extended his condolences to the military over the deaths of soldiers, noting that he had been briefed on the tragic events. He lamented the abduction of the girls despite prior intelligence warning of a potential attack.

“As Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces, I am deeply saddened by the loss of our soldiers and officers on active duty. May God comfort the families of Brigadier General Musa Uba and other fallen heroes,” the President said.

He further urged Nigerians, especially those in affected areas, to provide intelligence that could assist security agencies in protecting communities.

On Monday, the Kebbi Police Command confirmed that armed men abducted 25 students of the Government Girls’ Comprehensive Secondary School, Maga, in Danko/Wasagu Local Government Area.

Minister of Information and National Orientation, Alhaji Mohammed Idris, assured that the Federal Government was fully committed to rescuing the girls. “Our security and intelligence agencies have been directed to locate, rescue, and safely return the students, and ensure the perpetrators face justice. We will not relent until this is achieved,” he said.

The government is also recalibrating military, police, and intelligence capacities to prevent future attacks and reinforce cooperation with regional partners, including ECOWAS, the African Union, and the Multinational Joint Task Force (MNJTF).

“The public is urged to remain calm and confident in the nation’s security apparatus,” Idris added.
