Former Vice President Atiku Abubakar on Monday condemned the killing of the Vice-Principal and the abduction of students at Government Girls Comprehensive Senior Secondary School, Maga, in Kebbi State, describing the incident as a stark reflection of Nigeria’s worsening insecurity.
In a statement posted on X, Abubakar also denounced the killing of an All Progressives Congress (APC) chieftain, Umar Moriki, and the mass abductions in Tsafe Local Government Area of Zamfara State, where armed men kidnapped entire families, including women and children.
He noted that similar violent attacks and displacements have been reported in Plateau, Benue, and other states, while residents in Shanono Local Government Area of Kano State are fleeing their homes in fear.
Abubakar called on the Federal Government to urgently overhaul the nation’s security framework, strengthen deployments to vulnerable communities, and intensify intelligence-driven operations, stressing that Nigerians deserve protection, dignity, and lasting peace.
He said: “I am devastated by the tragic attack on Government Girls Comprehensive Senior Secondary School, Maga, in Kebbi State, which claimed the life of the Vice-Principal and led to the abduction of innocent students.
“These acts of barbarity, including the killing of APC chieftain Umar Moriki and mass kidnappings in Tsafe LGA, have no place in a civilized society. Similar tragedies in Plateau, Benue, and other states are tearing communities apart, while in Shanono LGA of Kano, residents are fleeing in fear.
“Nigeria cannot continue on this path. I urge the Federal Government to urgently review and strengthen its security architecture, deploy adequate personnel to vulnerable communities, and intensify intelligence-led operations. Citizens deserve protection, dignity, and peace, nothing less.”
