Adamawa State Governor Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri and his Plateau State counterpart, Caleb Mutfwang, have distanced themselves from the expulsion of the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, by leaders of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).
Fintiri, in a post on his X handle on Saturday night, said the decision did not reflect his views, insisting that he would not support any action capable of deepening the crisis within the opposition party.
The governor described himself as a loyal PDP member committed to rebuilding the party, warning that isolating key stakeholders at a time of internal divisions could worsen the situation.
“I stand for the peace and stability of the PDP. I will not be party to anything that could lead to its disintegration,” he stated.
Fintiri urged party leaders to prioritise reconciliation and dialogue, saying unity remained the only path to restoring the PDP’s strength ahead of future political contests.
Similarly, Governor Mutfwang, in a statement by his Director of Press and Public Affairs, Gyang Bere, faulted the expulsion of Wike and other party chieftains, noting that the matter was neither discussed nor approved by the PDP Governors’ Forum or the National Executive Committee (NEC).
The statement said the Plateau governor was not consulted before the decision was taken and therefore should not be associated with it.
According to Mutfwang, expelling prominent members at a crucial moment would not resolve the party’s internal disagreements.
Wike, along with former Ekiti State Governor Ayodele Fayose, PDP National Secretary Samuel Anyanwu, and several other party leaders, was expelled on Saturday night at the PDP national convention in Ibadan.
Their expulsion followed a motion moved by former Deputy National Chairman, Chief Olabode George, and seconded by Bauchi PDP Chairman, Samaila Burga.
Others affected by the sanction include National Organising Secretary Umar Bature; Legal Adviser Kamaldeen Ajibade, SAN; Abdulrahman Mohammed of the Wike faction; Mao Ohuabunwa; Abia PDP chairman Austin Nwachukwu; Imo chairman Abraham Amah; South-South zonal secretary George Turner; and zonal chairman Dan Orbih.
