Former Abia State Governor and immediate past Senator for Abia Central, Senator Theodore Orji, has dumped the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), bringing an end to his decades-long association with the party.
Orji announced his resignation in a letter addressed to the Chairman of Ward 1, Umuahia North Local Government Area. The letter, dated and submitted yesterday, conveyed his decision to exit the party with immediate effect.
He said the move came after “wide consultations with family and associates.”
“I write to formally tender my resignation from membership of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) effective immediately,”
Orji stated.
Fondly called Ochendo by his supporters, the former governor expressed appreciation to the PDP for the platform it offered him throughout his political journey.
“I appreciate the opportunities and experiences gained during my time as a member of the party. Please accept this letter as formal notice of my withdrawal,”
he added.
Orji’s exit marks a notable shift in Abia’s political landscape, considering his deep-rooted influence in the PDP since the return of democracy in 1999.
As at press time, he had not revealed his next political destination.
