Makinde 2027 Posters Flood PDP Convention Venue Amid Party’s Legal Tussle

Banners urging Oyo State Governor, Seyi Makinde, to contest the 2027 presidential election surfaced on Friday at the venue of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) national convention in Ibadan.

The Adamasingba Stadium, already wearing a festive look ahead of the two-day elective convention scheduled for November 15 and 16, was adorned with numerous campaign materials bearing the governor’s portraits.

During a visit to the stadium, Patriotic Insights News observed multiple banners hung at entrances and strategic points. One of the banners, attributed to a group known as Lana Fun Seyi, boldly proclaimed: “Seyi Makinde for President.”
Another, signed by PDP member Fapetu Stephen from Ido Local Government Area, declared: “Relax, Seyi Makinde Will Fix Nigeria 2027.”

Although Governor Makinde has not officially declared for the presidency, the campaign materials have reignited insinuations about his future political ambition. In 2024, the governor stated that he would make his intentions known “when the time is right,” insisting that speculation about his plans was premature.

Aside from Makinde-themed materials, posters of former Minister of Special Duties, Kabiru Turaki, seeking the national chairmanship position, and ex-Deputy National Chairman Taofeek Arapaja, contesting for national secretary, were also displayed.

The build-up to the convention has been overshadowed by conflicting court orders. Last week, an Oyo State High Court directed the PDP and its acting National Chairman, Umar Damagum, to proceed with preparations for the exercise. Days later, an Abuja High Court halted the event and restrained the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) from overseeing or recognising the convention.

On Thursday, a faction led by Sam Anyanwu announced a postponement of the convention — a claim swiftly dismissed by the Damagum-led leadership, which insisted the programme would go ahead as planned.

The convention is expected to elect a new National Working Committee (NWC) for the opposition party.
