Senior Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) chieftain, Bode George, has opposed moves to suspend the party’s national convention scheduled for November 15 and 16, 2025, in Ibadan, Oyo State.
Speaking exclusively to ARISE News on Thursday, George dismissed calls by former Senate President Bukola Saraki for a postponement of the convention and the establishment of a caretaker National Working Committee (NWC), describing such actions as unnecessary and unconstitutional.
“You know, in this country, it amazes me how people pursue purely selfish interests. Saraki set up the first reconciliation committee a while ago, and now, on the eve of the convention, he wants us to form a caretaker committee. I totally disagree with him,” George said.
The PDP chieftain stressed that the party’s core leadership remains intact, with most members of the NWC supporting the convention as scheduled.
“The main party is still solidly intact. We are awaiting the ruling of the court in Ibadan. The Supreme Court has ruled that all party activities should be resolved internally. They said, ‘Go to your party and resolve your issue.’ That is the law,” he added.
George also criticized what he described as reckless conduct within the PDP, which, he argued, disrespects the legacy of the party’s founding fathers.
On the controversy surrounding the alleged postponement of the Ibadan convention, George accused certain party members of acting beyond their authority. He specifically targeted the suspended National Secretary, Senator Samuel Anyanwu, who had released an advertisement claiming that the convention had been delayed.
“How many of them are together? A few weeks ago, the NWC meeting had 19 members, yet only three are in the Anyanwu group. That’s why you hear the voice of Jacob but see the hand of Esau,” he said.
The party remains on course for its Ibadan convention, with leaders calling for unity and adherence to the party’s constitutional processes.
