Former Minister of Aviation, Chief Femi Fani-Kayode, has called on the Federal Government to adopt a zero-tolerance approach to insurgency, warning against engaging in dialogue with terrorists.
Speaking on Tuesday at the opening of the Law Week of the Nigerian Bar Association (NBA), Akure Branch, Fani-Kayode said those who dedicate their lives to taking the lives of others have no right to life and must be crushed.
“People who take the lives of others must be eliminated. No negotiation, no compromise, no discussion, and no excuse. The state, at every level, has the duty to crush these vermin,” he stated.
Fani-Kayode stressed that Nigerians have historically resisted threats and divisive narratives, whether internal or external, and affirmed that the country will continue to confront its challenges head-on.
“We will solve our problems. Every day, we are making progress and moving forward as a nation,” he added.
The former minister also commended President Bola Tinubu’s reforms, describing them as crucial steps towards reducing Nigeria’s external dependence and strengthening national sovereignty.
Meanwhile, Ondo State Governor, Mr. Lucky Aiyedatiwa, represented by the state Commissioner for Justice, Dr. Kayode Ajulo, highlighted his administration’s commitment to the rule of law, judicial reforms, and institutional development. He noted efforts in court infrastructure development, digitalisation of court processes, and maintaining effective collaboration with the judiciary.
Governor Aiyedatiwa urged lawyers to renew their dedication as custodians of justice, describing them as “the conscience of the nation, advocates for the voiceless, and guardians of truth.”
During the event, the Chairman of Vanguard Newspaper, Mr. Sam Amuka-Pemu, fondly known as Uncle Sam, was honoured with the ‘Friend of the Bar’ Award.
