Senate Confirms Kingsley Udeh as Minister

The Senate has confirmed Kingsley Tochukwu Udeh, Senior Advocate of Nigeria (SAN) and former Attorney-General of Enugu State, as a minister in the federal executive council.

Udeh’s nomination was approved on Wednesday following a thorough scrutiny of his professional background and responses to lawmakers’ questions on governance and public service.

During the screening, Udeh assured senators of his readiness to serve diligently, irrespective of the ministry he is assigned. Responding to Senator Asuquo Ekpenyong (Cross River South) on handling responsibilities outside his legal expertise, Udeh said, “If you are a good lawyer, you should be able to fit in any area of life. By the grace of God, my career has spanned various aspects of public service and administration.”

Senator Adamu Aliero (Kebbi Central) sought confirmation on asset declaration. Udeh replied, “In all my public service roles, I have declared my assets as required by the constitution, and I will continue to do so in this national assignment.”

On the US designation of Nigeria as a “country of particular concern,” raised by Senator Abdul Ningi (Bauchi Central), Udeh noted that the issue is being handled diplomatically. “His Excellency, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, is already addressing the matter. Appointment and mobilization of ambassadors are crucial as it is primarily a diplomatic issue,” he said.

Senate President Godswill Akpabio put Udeh’s nomination to a voice vote, which was unanimously approved. He praised Udeh’s record and expressed hope that his experience would contribute to advancing the federal government’s agenda.

“Mr. Udeh is fit and proper to serve as a minister. I trust he will bring his wealth of experience to strengthen the cabinet and support the Renewed Hope Agenda of the President,” Akpabio said
