The National APC Christian Leaders Forum of Nigeria (NACLFON) has expressed confidence that the All Progressives Congress (APC) will emerge victorious in the August 8, 2026, governorship election in Osun State.
The group, made up of Christian clerics, said it had begun mobilising members of the Christian community across the state to cast their votes for the APC and its candidate in the coming poll.
Chairman of the Forum in Osun State, Venerable Victor Ashaolu, gave the assurance when he presented a letter of introduction to the Osun APC Chairman, Tajudeen Lawal, at the party’s secretariat in Osogbo.
Ashaolu said the visit was aimed at strengthening collaboration between the forum and the party ahead of the governorship election, adding that the group was also committed to promoting President Bola Tinubu’s Renewed Hope agenda.
He, however, faulted recent comments by United States President Donald Trump, who reportedly threatened military action against Nigeria over alleged religious persecution.
According to Ashaolu, while Trump might have meant well for Christians, his approach was “wrong and insensitive.”
He said: “Definitely, Trump is speaking in defence of Christians, but he should not threaten our country. If he truly wants to help, he should engage President Bola Tinubu and offer support towards ending terrorism, rather than making threats that undermine our sovereignty.”
The cleric added: “If Trump attacks Nigeria, who will suffer? Christians too. It’s a misplaced approach. We expect partnership, not provocation.”
Ashaolu noted that NACLFON is a recognised pressure group endorsed by the APC national leadership, tasked with mobilising Christians in support of the party across the 36 states of the federation.
He said: “We have started grassroots sensitisation to boost Christian voter registration and participation. Our projection is to deliver between 250 and 300 votes out of every 500 for the APC in Osun.”
Also present at the event were executive members of the APC, Christian leaders, and the party’s treasurer, Femi Kujembola, who represented the state chairman.
In his remarks, Kujembola commended the forum for its commitment to the party’s victory, urging members not to relent in their mobilisation efforts.
Veteran APC chieftain, Pa Shuaib Oyedokun, who also attended the meeting, described Trump’s comments as politically motivated, alleging that the United States was seeking to exploit Nigeria’s economic resources under the guise of defending religious freedom.
He lauded NACLFON’s efforts to rally the Christian community behind the APC, describing the initiative as timely and strategic.
