The Presidency has insisted that President Bola Tinubu remains ahead of what it described as an “orchestrated game” unfolding in the United States.
Presidential spokesman, Bayo Onanuga, made the assertion on X on Sunday while responding to recent remarks by U.S. President Donald Trump, who on Friday designated Nigeria as a country of particular concern, citing alleged violence against Christians and a purported failure by the government to protect religious minorities. Trump also warned of possible military action against Nigeria.
The Nigerian government, however, has denied any persecution of religious groups in the country.
In his response, Onanuga cited an excerpt from President Tinubu’s recent address to newly appointed service chiefs, emphasizing the administration’s proactive approach to national security.
“President Bola Tinubu was well ahead of the orchestrated game unfolding in America as he told the new service chiefs what Nigerians expect of them. No more excuses, he said. Nigerians want results,” Onanuga stated.
The Presidency highlighted Tinubu’s message, urging the nation’s military leadership to act decisively against emerging security threats, particularly new armed groups in the North-Central, North-West, and parts of the South. Tinubu reportedly called for innovation, pre-emptive action, and deployment of technology where necessary, warning that the crisis which began in 2009 must not persist.
“I charge you, as the heads of our nation’s armed forces, to carry out your duties with patriotic zeal. Nigerians expect results, not excuses. Let us stay ahead of those who seek to threaten our peace,” the President said, pledging full support to the service chiefs in tackling security challenges.
The Presidency’s statement underscores the administration’s commitment to addressing security threats proactively, even as tensions with the United States escalate over allegations of religious persecution.
