Modakeke APC Warns Adeleke Against Imposing New Iyaloja

…Says move threatens peace, disrespects Ogunsua’s authority

The All Progressives Congress (APC) in Modakeke has cautioned Osun State Governor, Senator Ademola Adeleke, against what it described as an “illegal attempt” to impose a new Iyaloja (market leader) on the people of Modakeke.

In a statement signed by its chairman, Hon. Adebowale Adegoke, the party accused the state government and the ruling Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) of plotting to remove the duly recognized Iyaloja of Modakeke, Alhaja Ibrahim Araokanmi, and replace her with Mrs. Saratu Saminu.

The party maintained that the appointment of an Iyaloja in Modakeke does not fall under the jurisdiction of the state government, but rather lies within the traditional authority of the Ogunsua of Modakeke, Oba Dr. Joseph Toriola, Ajibise Ogo I.

“For the records, the succession of Iyaloja in Modakeke Land is sequel to the approval of the Ogunsua of Modakeke and not that of any government official,” the statement read. “It is therefore an aberration and a disrespect to the throne of our revered father for a purported installation of a new Iyaloja, more so that the incumbent Iyaloja is alive, hale, and healthy.”

Hon. Adegoke noted that Alhaja Araokanmi, who was installed nearly two decades ago by the late Oba Dr. Francis Olatunji Adedoyin, has served meritoriously without any complaint or petition from market women or traders.

The APC chairman alleged that the purported plan to install a new Iyaloja is politically motivated and could disrupt the existing peace in Modakeke. He further disclosed that the palace of the Ogunsua has distanced itself from the move, citing a subsisting court order restraining anyone from installing a new Iyaloja pending the determination of the substantive suit.

“We are aware that Mrs. Saratu Saminu held a party on Saturday, claiming it was in celebration of her installation as Iyaloja. This celebration is a mere gathering of unscrupulous elements who do not have the love of Modakeke at heart,” the APC said.

The party also condemned alleged attempts to remove Alhaja Araokanmi on the grounds of her perceived association with APC members, describing it as “a misuse of power and an act of intimidation.”

The Modakeke APC urged Governor Adeleke to respect the wishes of the market women and traders, whom it described as “critical stakeholders” in the community, and to desist from actions capable of disturbing the peace of the town.

> “We therefore advise Governor Adeleke to shelve the decision to install a new Iyaloja as it is now glaring that this action is against the noble wishes of Modakeke market women and traders,” the statement added.
