Osun APC, JUSUN Lock Horns Over Judiciary Paralysis

The lingering strike by the Osun State chapter of the Judiciary Staff Union of Nigeria (JUSUN) has intensified tensions between the All Progressives Congress (APC) and the state government, with both sides trading accusations over the paralysis of judicial activities.

The industrial action, which began on September 19, 2025, under the leadership of Comrade Idris Adedayo Adeniran, has entered its 42nd day, crippling court operations across the state. The strike is driven by grievances over delayed staff promotions for 2024 and 2025, as well as unresolved welfare concerns.

In a statement on Wednesday, the Osun APC Director of Media and Information, Kola Olabisi, condemned the Adeleke administration for what it described as “the collapse of the judiciary in Osun State.” The party said the prolonged strike represents a failure of governance, noting that citizens’ constitutional rights are being undermined.

“The absence of judicial powers for over 41 days signifies anarchy and a collective breach of citizens’ fundamental rights to have their affairs decided by a competent court,” the APC statement read. It further warned that suspects remain in police custody without trial, while legal practitioners and citizens suffer due to the shutdown of court proceedings.

The opposition accused Governor Ademola Adeleke’s government of disregarding the constitutional and security implications of the strike and called for urgent intervention to restore judicial functions.

However, JUSUN dismissed the APC’s claims as politically motivated. Comrade Adeniran described the strike as a legitimate demand for justice, fair treatment, and improved welfare for judicial staff.

“The APC’s criticism is rich, considering their own failure to improve the judiciary in Osun State. Our strike is a call for attention to pending promotions and welfare issues, not a political maneuver,” Adeniran said. He urged the opposition to engage the Chief Judge directly rather than politicising the workers’ grievances.

The union reaffirmed its commitment to peaceful dialogue and called on the public to support its quest for fairness and better working conditions within the state’s judiciary.
