Ogun Berates Opposition Over ‘False Narrative’ On Roads

Ogun State Government on Tuesday faulted what it called a deliberate campaign by opposition elements to paint the administration of Governor Dapo Abiodun as insensitive to the state’s road infrastructure challenges.

The Special Adviser to the Governor on Information and Strategy, Kayode Akinmade, in a statement, said the government is undertaking projects across the three senatorial districts despite limited resources and a huge backlog of inherited deficits.

He disclosed that four major highways in the Ifo–Sango–Ota–Idiroko corridor are currently under reconstruction, with several others already completed within the same axis.

Akinmade listed the completed roads to include: Ikorita Meta–Adenrele/Olose Titus Vespa Road; Old Bank Road–Orita Meta–Coker Junction–Olumo Spur Road; Olusegun Osoba–Toyin–Agbado Road; Sango–Ota–Oke Aro–Ojodu Abiodun Road (phases 1 & 6); Akute–Denro–Ishasi Road and Atan–Lusada–Marogbo Toll Road, among others.

He added that the much-discussed Ota–Itele–Lafenwa Road which has dominated social media conversations has been captured in the proposed 2026 budget and will be reconstructed.

While acknowledging citizens’ right to demand better roads, the aide warned residents to be wary of “political actors trying to call a dog a bad name just to hang it”.

“The Dapo Abiodun administration is people-centred and open to scrutiny,” he said. “But we also know of the ongoing attempts to create unnecessary tension through incitements and misinformation.”

Akinmade noted that the deplorable roads in the Sango-Ota corridor predate the Abiodun administration and form part of what the government inherited in 2019.
