Oke hails new Service Chiefs, seeks consolidation of security gains

The Chairman, House Committee on Foreign Affairs and member representing Obokun/Oriade Federal Constituency of Osun State, Hon Busayo Oluwole Oke, has congratulated the newly appointed Service Chiefs, urging them to consolidate on the gains already recorded in the nation’s fight against insecurity.

In a statement in Abuja, Oke described their elevation as “a mark of confidence and a renewed call to patriotic service”, noting that the appointments came at a critical phase in the country’s security trajectory.

He said President Tinubu’s choice of Lt.-Gen. Olufemi Oluyede (Chief of Defence Staff), Maj.-Gen. W. Shaibu (Chief of Army Staff), Rear Admiral I. Abbas (Chief of Naval Staff), Air Vice Marshal S. K. Aneke (Chief of Air Staff) and Maj.-Gen. E.A.P. Undiendeye (Chief of Defence Intelligence), reflected confidence in “tested officers with proven records of diligence, discipline and commitment to national unity.”

According to him, the new team must bring their experience to bear in improving coordination across the Armed Forces and deepening ongoing counter-terrorism and anti-banditry operations across the country.

“The new Service Chiefs are inheritors of a challenging but noble assignment,” Oke said. “The nation expects renewed vigour, collaboration and transparency in tackling emerging threats to our internal and external security.”

He commended the outgoing Service Chiefs “for their patriotic service in the continuum of national defence” and urged the new team to anchor their operations on intelligence-led policing, inter-agency synergy and public confidence.

The lawmaker stressed the need for improved welfare for officers and men as a prerequisite for operational effectiveness, and reaffirmed the National Assembly’s readiness to provide legislative backing for reforms that strengthen professionalism and accountability in the military.

Oke prayed for God’s wisdom and protection for the new appointees and urged Nigerians to support the Armed Forces with patriotism and vigilance.

“On behalf of the good people of Obokun/Oriade Federal Constituency and the House Committee on Foreign Affairs, I congratulate the new Service Chiefs. May their tenure bring peace, stability and renewed hope to every part of Nigeria,” he said.
