Women storm APC HQ, reject Oyebanji as Ekiti consensus candidate

A protest broke out on Friday at the national secretariat of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Abuja as party members from Ekiti State kicked against the exclusion of Kayode Ojo from the October 27 governorship primary.

The demonstrators, most of them women, marched to the Blantyre Street headquarters chanting anti-consensus songs and accusing the party leadership of “imposing” the incumbent governor, Biodun Oyebanji, as consensus candidate.

Ojo was disqualified by the APC National Working Committee a few weeks ago, a move critics say effectively cleared the way for Oyebanji ahead of the 2026 governorship election fixed by the Independent National Electoral Commission for July 20.

The protesters carried placards with inscriptions, including:
“We Don’t Want Consensus”, “Ekiti Women Reject BAO”, “No to Oyebanji Imposition”, and “Yes to Kayode Ojo”.

They demanded the reversal of Ojo’s disqualification and the conduct of what they called a “free contest” in line with the party’s constitution.
