Ex-PDP Senator Ben Murray-Bruce Joins APC, Endorses Tinubu for 2027

Businessman and former senator, Ben Murray-Bruce, has officially defected from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), citing confidence in President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s economic and governance reforms as his primary motivation.

In a statement shared on his X account on Wednesday, Murray-Bruce described Tinubu as a result-driven leader with deep expertise in finance and reform. “I have known President Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu since 1998. I know the man’s mind, his courage, and his conviction. He is not driven by applause, he is driven by results. Today, I can boldly say that he is on the right track,” he said.

The former senator lauded the President for steering Nigeria toward a free-market economy, acknowledging that the ongoing reforms, though challenging, were necessary for long-term prosperity. “The painful reforms we face today are the very foundation of tomorrow’s prosperity. We are moving into a free-market economy, one that rewards hard work and innovation instead of dependency and distortion,” he added.

Murray-Bruce also praised the administration’s handling of national security, the Central Bank’s reforms, and the deregulation of the fuel sector, asserting that these policies were restoring investor confidence and strengthening the naira. “Our foreign policy is again respected. Our fuel supply is deregulated. We will never again live through the humiliation of fuel scarcity. Investments are returning, and the world is watching Nigeria rise again,” he said.

Representing Bayelsa East in the 8th Senate, Murray-Bruce emphasized that his defection was driven by conviction rather than political ambition. “That is why today, I am joining the All Progressives Congress, not for politics, but for progress. Because I believe Bola Tinubu’s leadership, guided by courage and intellect, will deliver the Nigeria we have all dreamed of,” he stated.

Expressing optimism about Nigeria’s future under Tinubu, he added, “I choose to stand with that vision. I choose to stand with reform. I choose to stand with the future.”
