There are strong indications that former National Secretary of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Senator Iyiola Omisore, may quit the ruling party after the forthcoming Osun APC governorship primary, amid fears that he could face disqualification similar to the controversial Ojo case in Ekiti State.
Party insiders who spoke to Patriotic Insights News disclosed that Omisore, who has formally declared his intention to contest the Osun governorship election under the APC, is already weighing his options as internal tension heightens ahead of the primary.
According to credible sources, Omisore’s camp fears a repeat of the Ekiti scenario where a frontline aspirant, Kayode Ojo, was allegedly edged out through what some described as “technical manipulation” of the screening process.
“There are growing fears that the same tactic may be deployed in Osun to frustrate Senator Omisore,” one party source said. “He’s therefore holding talks with the New Nigeria People’s Party (NNPP) as an alternative platform in case of any foul play.”
The development, sources said, follows the worsening relationship between Omisore and some power blocs within the APC, both at the state and national levels, amid allegations of attempts to impose a preferred aspirant.
Another insider confirmed that Omisore has held several strategic consultations with NNPP stakeholders in recent weeks, adding that his final decision will depend on how transparent the APC primary turns out.
Although Omisore has not made any public comment on the matter, observers believe his possible exit from the APC could reshape Osun’s political landscape, particularly given his strong base in the Ife axis.
Omisore, a former Deputy Governor of Osun and one-time Chairman of the Senate Committee on Appropriation, joined the APC in 2021 and later served as its National Secretary until 2023.
Efforts to obtain official comments from his media office were unsuccessful as of press time.
