Enugu State Governor, Peter Mbah, is set to abandon the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) for the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) on Tuesday, October 14, 2025, sources confirmed.
The governor is expected to move alongside other elected officials in the state, including members of the Enugu State House of Assembly who currently belong to the PDP.
The APC National Chairman, Professor Nentawe Yilwatda, confirmed the impending defection on Friday while inaugurating a seven-member APC caretaker committee for Enugu State in Abuja.
Dr. Ben Nwoye, newly appointed chairman of the Enugu APC caretaker committee, also confirmed Governor Mbah’s readiness to join the ruling party during a chat with journalists in the nation’s capital.
This will follow the earlier defections of Delta State Governor Sheriff Oborevwori and Akwa Ibom State Governor Umo Eno, who both left the PDP for the APC earlier this year. Rumors also suggest that Bayelsa State Governor Douye Diri may soon make a similar move.
Political watchers say the trend signals a growing consolidation of the APC ahead of the 2027 general elections, with more PDP governors reportedly contemplating defection.
