Lagos Lauded for Advancing Workplace Safety Standards

Lagos State Government has received commendation from the federal government for its strides in promoting occupational safety and health across workplaces.

Nkeiruka Onyejeocha, Minister of State for Labour and Employment, praised the state during her address at the Lagos State Occupational Safety and Health (LASOSH) conference, describing the initiative as “critically relevant to Nigeria’s broader economic transformation agenda.”

The minister acknowledged the proactive role of the Lagos State Safety Commission under the administration of Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu, highlighting the Commission’s mission to “proactively make safety a lifestyle” as a model of forward-thinking leadership.

“A safe and healthy workforce is the bedrock of productivity. Prioritising safety ensures that workers perform at their best, businesses remain competitive, and national productivity increases,” Onyejeocha said.

She also reiterated the federal government’s commitment to collaborating with states, employers, and stakeholders to strengthen occupational safety and health practices nationwide.

“Our goal is to integrate safety fully into national job creation and employability efforts. We are committed to supporting employers with practical regulations that protect workers while enabling enterprise to thrive,” the minister added.

Onyejeocha called for robust collaboration among government, the private sector, and civil society to nurture a safety-first culture that safeguards all workers across sectors.
