Royal Storm in Osun Politics: UK-Based Princess Sijuwade Becomes First Woman to Declare for Governorship

A royal wave swept through Osun politics yesterday as Princess Sijuwade Adeyanju Adeoye, a United Kingdom-based development advocate and member of the Obagun royal dynasty, formally declared her intention to contest the Osun State Governorship Election on the platform of the African Democratic Congress (ADC).

With her declaration, Princess Sijuwade becomes the first female aspirant to officially enter the 2026 Osun governorship race — a bold move that observers say could reshape the political landscape of the state.

The historic declaration took place at the ADC’s enlarged stakeholders’ meeting in Ifelodun Local Government Area, which drew a massive turnout of party faithful, women groups, youth organizations, and community leaders who cheered the princess’s ambition.

Speaking with passion and conviction, Princess Sijuwade said her decision to join the race was inspired by the urgent need to restore Osun’s pride, empower its people, and entrench a culture of good governance.

“This is not about titles or politics; it is about service,” she declared to thunderous applause. “Our people deserve better — jobs for our youths, empowerment for our women, and a government that listens. I am here to rebuild Osun with honesty, courage, and compassion.”

The princess, who has spent several years in the United Kingdom working in governance, development, and community empowerment, vowed to deploy her international exposure and experience to drive economic revival, education reform, and agricultural innovation in Osun.

She emphasized that her emergence signals a new dawn for women in Osun politics, adding that leadership should no longer be the preserve of men.

“It’s time for women to take their rightful place in decision-making. I am not in this race to add colour — I am in it to win and to lead with purpose,” she said confidently.

Supporters described her declaration as “a breath of fresh air,” hailing her courage to challenge the status quo and her commitment to inclusive leadership.

Political analysts say her entry into the contest adds a fresh dimension to the race, with many predicting that her royal background, international exposure, and grassroots appeal could make her a formidable force ahead of the 2026 election.

As the countdown to the governorship race gathers steam, one thing seems certain with Princess Sijuwade in the race, Osun’s 2026 political battle may never be the same again.
