We’ll Win Abia by Ballot, Not Force – Kalu

The All Progressives Congress (APC) has assured that it will rely on the power of the people rather than federal government influence to reclaim Abia State from the Labour Party in the 2027 elections.

Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives, Benjamin Kalu, made the declaration on Sunday while addressing members of Renewed Hope Partners and other APC supporters in Umuahia. He urged party members to register and obtain their Permanent Voter Cards (PVCs) as a key tool to “sack” the ruling Labour Party government in Abia.

“We are not going to take over this state by force. Some people claim we intend to use federal power, but that is not true. We will win with the votes of the people,” Kalu said.

Kalu also criticised the current Labour Party administration for underperformance. He noted that previous administrations under Theodore Orji and Okezie Ikpeazu achieved more with monthly FAAC allocations of about N3–4 billion, compared to the larger allocations the state currently receives.

The Deputy Speaker expressed confidence that Abia residents are ready to re-elect President Bola Tinubu in 2027, citing the federal government’s various achievements and the financial support being made available to Abia and other states.

He further disclosed that some individuals in the state have criticised him for speaking out against the government, but he vowed to continue serving as “the leader of the opposition in Abia State.”

Kalu’s remarks come amid growing political activities in Abia as parties prepare for the 2027 general elections, with the APC positioning itself as a viable alternative to the Labour Party government.
