Ten Dead, Governor Silent: APC Blames Adeleke, Calls for Amotekun Overhaul

The Osun State chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has accused Governor Ademola Adeleke of failing to act promptly following the gruesome killings in Akinlalu, Ife-North Local Government Area, where at least ten innocent citizens were reportedly shot by operatives of the state Amotekun Corps.

In a statement today, the APC described the extra-judicial killings as “deeply disturbing” and called for an immediate investigation by the Office of the National Security Adviser, the Inspector-General of Police, and the Department of State Services (DSS). The party warned that the incident could be politically motivated, given the upcoming 2026 governorship election.

The statement was signed by Mogaji Kola Olabisi, Osun State APC Director of Media and Information, who stressed the urgent need for accountability and proper handling of the Akinlalu killings by statutory security services.

“How could it take five days for the state government to plan a visit to a community barely an hour from the state capital, where such a tragedy occurred?” the APC asked, describing the governor’s delayed reaction a press statement issued days after the killings as “poorly written” and “crassly irresponsible.” The party also noted that a visit to the grieving community is only scheduled after a meeting on Monday.

The APC reiterated concerns over the appointment of Mr. Adekunle Omoyele, a retired Chief Superintendent of Police and former Chief Security Officer to the governor, as head of the Amotekun Corps. Omoyele was previously indicted for human rights violations and extra-judicial killings by the Osun State EndSARS Judicial Panel in 2020, which recommended his demotion and prosecution.

Under Omoyele’s leadership, the APC claimed, the Amotekun has increasingly been used as a “tool for political victimisation and oppression,” with several citizens reportedly tortured and detained illegally.

The party is now demanding the immediate removal of Omoyele and the prosecution of Amotekun operatives responsible for the Akinlalu killings, calling for a complete reform of the state Amotekun Corps to restore public confidence.
