Oro-Ago in Panic: Mass Exodus Hits Kwara Deputy Governor’s Hometown As Bandits Wreak Havoc

Farmers flee, markets deserted as fear grips agrarian community in Ifelodun LGA

With fear etched on their faces and hurriedly packed bags clutched to their chests, hundreds of residents of Oro-Ago, an agrarian community in Ifelodun Local Government Area of Kwara State, have fled their homes following renewed bandit attacks, kidnappings, and killings that have thrown the area into chaos.

Investigations by Patriotic Insights News revealed that the mass departure, which began early Saturday morning, continued late into the night, with families, traders, farmers, and herders seen leaving in buses, motorcycles, and even donkey carts — all desperate to escape the wave of terror.

Oro-Ago, the hometown of the Kwara State Deputy Governor, is famed for its fertile farmlands and peaceful lifestyle. But today, fear has replaced farming, and silence has overtaken its once-bustling markets.

Night of fear, dawn of flight

Residents say attacks have become unpredictable, often occurring at night or along rural roads. Armed gangs reportedly emerge from surrounding forests, abducting residents and travelers for ransom.

A resident, Taofeeq, told Patriotic Insights News:

> “We live in fear every day. The bandits come anytime they want, and nobody can stop them. Even the Fulani and Bororo people who used to live here are leaving. It’s like everyone is running for their lives.”

Killing that broke the silence

The mass movement follows the September 25, 2025, killing of Chief David Oladepo Aina, Baale of Oyatedo and owner of Kebe Hotel. He was shot dead by suspected bandits who attempted to abduct him in front of his hotel shortly after returning from Omu-Aran.

The incident, described by locals as “the final straw,” has left the community traumatized.

Police silent as panic spreads

Efforts to reach the Police Public Relations Officer, SP Adetoun Ejire-Adeyemi, were unsuccessful as calls to her line went unanswered as of press time. Security sources, however, disclosed that police operatives and vigilantes have been deployed around the Oro-Ago–Oke-Ode axis to stem the attacks.

Government’s assurance

A top government source told Patriotic Insights News that the Abdulrahman Abdulrazaq administration is working on a joint security operation involving police, local hunters, and community volunteers to restore order.

> “The government is not relenting,” the source said. “The situation in Oro-Ago and its surroundings is being addressed with urgency.”

Ghost town in daylight

When Patriotic Insights News visited on Sunday, the town was eerily quiet. Markets were shut, homes locked, and farmlands abandoned.

A local trader, Mrs. Folashade Olawuyi, summed up the despair:

> “We can’t continue like this. People have stopped coming to buy or sell. Until security improves, everyone is thinking only of safety.”
