Tension in Kwara as Gunmen Abduct Two Brothers on Cassava Farm
Panic has gripped Edu Local Government Area of Kwara State following the abduction of two brothers by gunmen on Wednesday night.
The attackers, about four in number and heavily armed, invaded a cassava farm at Bokungi Zambufu in Lafiagi Emirate, shooting sporadically before seizing the brothers and vanishing into the bush.
A resident told The Patriotic Insights News that the community has been thrown into confusion, as no contact has yet been made by the abductors. “I saw soldiers parading two suspects, but we cannot confirm if they were part of the bandits,” the source added.
The incident has deepened fear across Kwara’s border communities, which have in recent months suffered repeated assaults by kidnappers and armed gangs.
Worried by the surge in violence, the state government yesterday warned residents in Ekiti, Ifelodun, Isin, Oke Ero and Irepodun Local Government Areas to be vigilant and limit outdoor activities while security forces intensify their onslaught on criminal hideouts along the Kwara–Kogi axis.
Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq had earlier vowed to deploy all resources to crush banditry, insisting that “Kwara will not be a safe haven for criminals.”
