Grief as ADC Deputy Spokesman in Imo slumps, dies
Shock and grief have enveloped the African Democratic Congress (ADC) following the sudden death of its Deputy Publicity Secretary in Imo State, Hon. Ugochimereze Chinedu Asuzu.
The respected politician, scholar and cultural advocate was said to have slumped and died in the early hours of Wednesday, leaving his family, admirers and political associates in deep mourning.
In a statement, the party’s State Publicity Secretary, Chief MacDonald Amadi, described the death as a “devastating blow,” lamenting that Asuzu’s brilliance, courage and service to humanity had been cut short at his prime.
Born in Umuma Isiaku, Ideato South Local Government Area, the late Asuzu was celebrated for his rare blend of academic excellence and grassroots activism. A theologian and political scientist, he was pursuing a doctorate before his demise.
He was also the founder of Igbo Intelligentsia Renaissance, a platform for cultural revival, and convener of I Stand With ADC, a coalition that mobilised citizens for democratic participation.
Beyond politics, Asuzu wore many hats theologian, entrepreneur, writer, visiting lecturer and public affairs analyst. His voice, many said, resonated with conviction and clarity on issues of democracy, culture and nation-building.
The ADC described him as “a loving husband, devoted father and mentor” whose influence extended far beyond partisan lines.
“The passing of Chief Asuzu is not just a loss to his family or the ADC, but to the Nigerian society which he served with intellect, passion and courage,” the statement read.
His death, colleagues say, has created a void in both political and intellectual circles.
Burial arrangements will be announced later.
