WAEC Commends Ekiti for Expanding ICT Access in Public Schools
The West African Examinations Council (WAEC) has lauded the Ekiti State Government for strengthening digital infrastructure across public secondary schools, noting that the initiative will greatly enhance teaching, learning, and assessment outcomes.
During an inspection tour of selected schools, WAEC officials observed that the state had provided modern computer laboratories, interactive smart boards, internet connectivity, and alternative power supply systems to support technology-driven learning.
The Council described the intervention as timely, especially as it prepares to fully implement Computer-Based Testing (CBT) for the West African Senior School Certificate Examination (WASSCE).
A WAEC representative remarked that the initiative places Ekiti ahead of many states in readiness for digital examinations and urged continuous investment in the facilities.
The Ministry of Education, Science and Technology explained that the ICT rollout is part of a broader policy to embed digital literacy across all public secondary schools. It added that the government has partnered with technology providers to supply devices, servers, and broadband connectivity, including in rural areas.
While commending the state, education stakeholders stressed the importance of sustainability. They called on the government to put in place robust maintenance plans, periodic training for teachers, and strong data security protocols to ensure long-term benefits.
Observers noted that the project signals a significant step towards bridging the digital divide and preparing Ekiti students for a technology-driven future.
