Troops Recover Arms, Grenade in Benue Anti-Bandit Operations

Troops of Operation WHIRL STROKE (OPWS) have seized a cache of weapons, ammunition, and a hand grenade during intensified operations in Katsina-Ala Local Government Area between September 26 and 28, 2025.

According to Lieutenant Ahmed Zubairu, Acting Media Officer of the JTF Operation WHIRL STROKE, the security personnel intercepted armed bandits in Agurugu and Igyudu villages, effectively foiling their plans to launch attacks.

The first operation began on September 26 when troops, acting on credible intelligence, engaged the bandits at Sheekan village. “The criminals fled in disarray, abandoning one automatic pistol, three 9mm rounds, 33 7.62mm special ammunition, 15 5.56 x 45mm rounds, two AK-47 magazines, and 29 mobile phones,” Zubairu said.

Two days later, troops on a patrol from Gbise approached Igyudu village, responding to reports of bandit activity. Once again, the bandits retreated, leaving behind one single-barrel gun, three rounds of 7.62mm NATO, two AK-47 magazines, one G3 magazine, one hand grenade, a tear gas canister, assorted medical kits, and a mobile phone.

No casualties were recorded in either operation.

Major General Moses Gara, Commander of the Joint Task Force, praised the troops for their bravery, discipline, and swift response. He described the operations as proof that ongoing security strategies by the Nigerian Army and partner agencies are yielding results.

“Our commitment to restoring peace in Benue and neighbouring states remains unwavering,” Gara stated. “We urge residents to continue providing timely intelligence to support our operations.”
