Ondo PDP Sinks Deeper As Media Chief Dumps Party
The internal wrangling within the Ondo State chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has worsened with the resignation of its Director of Media and Publicity, Leye Igbabo, just days after the party’s state congress.
At the congress held in Akure, former council boss Hon. Dupe Aisida was elected chairman. He had called on members to bury the hatchet and rebuild confidence in the crisis-ridden party.
But Igbabo, in a resignation letter to the new chairman, declared that the party had become a toxic ground where deceit, compromise and indiscipline thrived.
He wrote:
“The secretariat has become hostile to the effective performance of my duties… There is no more sincerity of purpose. Staying in such an environment amounts to a waste of time and energy. I therefore resign with immediate effect.”
His resignation is the second high-profile exit in months. Earlier, the former Publicity Secretary, Kennedy Peretei, dumped the party in frustration, likening the PDP in Ondo to a patient moved “from the Intensive Care Unit to the mortuary.”
Peretei, who once served as Financial Secretary and later Publicity Secretary, accused the party leaders of holding the platform hostage for personal gains, thereby crippling its electoral chances.
With two key communication strategists gone, party insiders fear that the PDP in Ondo may be heading for a fresh round of internal implosion ahead of the 2027 polls.
