Gaza Peace in Sight? Trump Unveils Plan Backed by Israel

US President Donald Trump said he is edging closer to a peace agreement that could end the war in Gaza, following a high-stakes meeting with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu at the White House on Monday.

Ahead of the meeting, the Trump administration released a 20-point roadmap aimed at halting hostilities, securing the release of remaining hostages, and guiding the withdrawal of Israeli forces from the enclave.

The plan lays out two possible paths to peace. The first allows Israel to withdraw to pre-agreed lines if Hamas releases all hostages within 72 hours. If Hamas refuses, the second path permits Israel to maintain its military campaign while gradually transferring territory to a transitional authority.

Netanyahu expressed strong support for the plan in a joint press briefing, saying it meets Israel’s strategic objectives. These include the safe return of all hostages, disarmament of Hamas, the group’s exit from Gaza, establishment of an Israeli security perimeter, and a civilian administration independent of both Hamas and the Palestinian Authority.

Hamas has yet to respond to the proposal. Trump assured that Netanyahu would receive Washington’s “full backing” should Hamas reject the plan.

Observers say the initiative could mark a turning point in the decades-long conflict, with the world closely watching developments in Gaza over the coming days.
