UBA Barred from Touching Osun Local Govt Money

An Oyo State High Court has restrained the United Bank for Africa (UBA) from releasing funds from accounts opened in the names of Osun State’s 30 Local Governments by the court-sacked APC Chairmen and councillors.

The interim order, issued on Friday, September 26, 2025, follows the Federal Government’s release of the seized allocations into the controversial new accounts—a move the state government challenged in court under suit number 1/1149/25.

Justice A.L. Akintola of Court 5, who heard the ex-parte motion, granted the injunction after reviewing the motion, affidavit, and supporting documents filed by the Attorney-General of Osun State, the plaintiff. UBA was the sole defendant.

The state government asked the court to stop the bank from paying out the statutory allocations to any person or entity, pending the hearing of a motion on notice for an interlocutory injunction. The court agreed, stating that any delay could cause irreversible harm to the state and its local governments.

The hearing of the motion on notice is now adjourned to October 3, 2025. Meanwhile, the state government, through lead counsel Mr. Musibau Adetunbi, SAN, has formally notified UBA of its duty to comply with the court order. The injunction covers all accounts listed in the suit and any other related accounts that may hold the LG allocations.
