FG Cancels Independence Day Parade, Urges Nigerians to Celebrate Milestone in Spirit
The Federal Government has announced the cancellation of the Independence Day parade originally scheduled to mark Nigeria’s 65th Independence Anniversary on Wednesday, October 1, 2025.
The decision was disclosed in a press release on Monday by Segun Imohiosen, Director of Information and Public Relations, Office of the Secretary to the Government of the Federation. The statement did not provide a specific reason for the cancellation but assured that the development would not diminish the significance of the national milestone.
“The Federal Government wishes to announce the cancellation of the Independence Anniversary parade, previously scheduled for Wednesday, 1st October. This cancellation is in no way a diminishment of the significance of this milestone anniversary,” the statement read.
It added that other programmes lined up for the celebration would proceed as planned. The government also expressed regret for any inconvenience the cancellation might cause.
The statement further appealed to Nigerians, the diplomatic community, and invited guests to continue supporting the reform agenda of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, GCFR, in the collective effort to build a greater nation.
Independence Day remains a public holiday, with the celebration theme tagged “Nigeria @ 65: All Hands on Deck for a Greater Nation.”
