Bloodbath in Oke-Ode: Bandits Kill 12, Including Community Leader

In a shocking escalation of insecurity, armed bandits yesterday morning slaughtered 12 people, including the Baale of Ogbayo, in a brazen attack on Oke-Ode community in Ifelodun Local Government Area of Kwara State.

The Kwara State Police Command confirmed that the attackers struck around 7 a.m., firing indiscriminately and targeting members of the local vigilante group who had been on patrol.

A statement by the Police Public Relations Officer, SP Adetoun Ejire-Adeyemi, said operatives of the command and personnel of the National Forest Security Service (NFSS) responded swiftly to distress calls. By the time they arrived, 12 vigilante members were already dead. Four others sustained injuries and were immediately taken to the hospital for treatment, while the bodies of the deceased were evacuated.

“At about 7:00 a.m. today, armed men invaded the Ogbayo area of Oke-Ode, shooting sporadically. A combined team of police operatives and NFSS personnel responded promptly and discovered 12 lifeless bodies, including that of the Baale of Ogbayo,” the statement read.

Ejire-Adeyemi said the police, in collaboration with the military and NFSS, had intensified manhunt operations to track down the perpetrators, assuring residents that justice would be served.

Commissioner of Police, Adekimi Ojo, described the killings as “heinous” while extending condolences to the families of the victims. He pledged the command’s unwavering commitment to protecting lives and property across the state.

Residents of Oke-Ode are reportedly in shock, with many calling for increased security presence to prevent further attacks in the area.
