PDP in Kwara Reaffirms Readiness for 2027 Elections as Bawa Takes Helm

The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Kwara State on Saturday elected Adamu Bawa as its new state chairman during a congress held in Ilorin, signalling the party’s readiness for the 2027 general elections. Bawa, who contested the 2023 senatorial election for Kwara North, emerged unopposed.

Other officials elected at the congress included AbdulRahman Kayode as State Secretary and Olusegun Adewara as Publicity Secretary.

Former Senate President, Dr. Bukola Saraki, commended party members for their demonstration of internal democracy and maturity. “The PDP has once again shown that it provides a level playing field and prioritises the will of the people,” Saraki said, adding that the peaceful and orderly conduct of the congress reflected the party’s national character.

He contrasted the PDP’s process with other parties, noting that “In other congresses, security is often needed due to disorder, but in Kwara, the process was transparent, coordinated, and peaceful.”

Babatunde Mohammed, the immediate past state chairman, reaffirmed the party’s preparedness to challenge the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) in 2027. “As far as the Kwara PDP is concerned, we are one big family, fully prepared for the task ahead. With the support of the people, we are ready to challenge the APC as the main opposition party in 2027,” he said.

In his acceptance speech, Bawa pledged to work with party executives and stakeholders to strengthen the party. “We are committed to the development of the PDP at both state and national levels. Together, we will strive to regain power in Kwara State in 2027,” he stated.

The congress concluded without incident, a testament to the party’s efforts to maintain cohesion and focus on the next general elections.
