Niger State Unveils 30-Year Strategic Plan at UN General Assembly

Governor Umaru Bago of Niger State has unveiled an ambitious 30-year development roadmap for the state at the 80th United Nations General Assembly in New York, in an event aimed at attracting global investment and showcasing the state’s long-term vision for growth.

 

The inaugural “Niger Day” convened investors, policymakers, members of the Nigerian diaspora, and international stakeholders, featuring panel discussions on Human Capital Development and Investments as well as Agricultural Transformation.

 

According to a statement from the Niger State Secretariat, the development plan, dubbed “New Niger Vision 2055”, rests on four strategic pillars: improved livelihoods, sustainable economic growth, urban renewal coupled with rural transformation, and good governance.

 

Governor Bago highlighted that the plan seeks to lift millions out of poverty, promote world-class industries, modernise both urban and rural communities, and strengthen accountable institutions, positioning Niger State as a model of subnational transformation in Africa.

 

The event also witnessed the signing of three significant Memoranda of Understanding (MoUs):

 

Salin 247 Inc., to drive agricultural mechanisation through AI and smart technologies;

 

Junior Achievement Nigeria, to implement the School-to-Work Education Transition for Long-term Youth Fulfilment (SET4LYF) programme, aimed at empowering young people;

 

Ethnomet Inc., which will establish 274 Virtual Primary Care Centres, ensuring one centre per ward to enhance healthcare delivery and capacity building.

 

 

“These partnerships underscore Niger State’s commitment to transforming agriculture, empowering youth, improving school enrolment, and strengthening primary healthcare with a focus on sustainable, people-centred development,” the statement added.

 

Governor Bago attended the UN assembly alongside Nigeria’s Vice President, Kashim Shettima, who represented President Bola Tinubu. At the international forum, he participated in side events such as the US-Africa Trade Investment Conference (Tradelink 2025), economic development roundtables, and discussions on climate financing, health, and innovation, highlighting Niger State’s investment potential across agriculture, trade, technology, and culture.
