Aziegbemi Secures Second Term as Edo PDP Chairman
By Agency Report
Dr. Tony Aziegbemi has been re-elected as Chairman of the Edo State chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), securing a second term in office.
The congress, held on Saturday, drew 917 delegates from all 18 local government areas of the state. The exercise, which produced a new State Executive Committee, was supervised by a panel from the PDP national headquarters led by Mr. Tariga Tulagha, Chairman of the Electoral Committee.
Most of the candidates, including Aziegbemi, ran unopposed, but the electoral panel emphasized strict adherence to party guidelines throughout the process.
Speaking after the announcement, Aziegbemi described the congress as “seamless and historic,” reflecting delegates’ confidence in the party’s leadership.
“You have just witnessed the rebirth of the PDP in Edo State. Over 900 delegates voted peacefully, orderly, and with maturity,” he said, adding that the party was ready to “reinvent itself and reclaim its place.”
Aziegbemi further pledged that the leadership would not take the mandate for granted. “We will work tirelessly to deliver Sapele Road and Sadaebe Avenue back to the PDP. Edo people are yearning for good governance, and we will not disappoint them,” he stated.
In his earlier remarks, Aziegbemi acknowledged the presence of senior party leaders, including Chief Tom Ikimi, Senator Clifford Odia, and members of the State House of Assembly. He also commended INEC officials and observers for monitoring the congress, describing their presence as a mark of transparency.
“With your prayers and support since 2020, we returned the PDP to Government House and achieved victories across council and legislative positions. Today, you have entrusted us once more with leadership,” he said.
Highlighting the party’s future goals, Aziegbemi noted that the congress was not merely an internal election but a launchpad for upcoming polls in 2027 and 2028. “Our focus is on building a formidable party that will reclaim Edo and Nigeria from the failures of the APC-led administration. With unity, hard work, and God’s grace, PDP will emerge stronger,” he added.
Members elected into the State Executive Committee include Victor Enoghama (Deputy Chairman), Henry Duke Tenebe (Secretary), Monday Osaigbovo (Vice Chairman South), Richard Anetekhai (Vice Chairman North), and Adekunle Oboh (Vice Chairman Central), among others. The committee will serve for the next four years.
