Makinde Reaffirms NYSC’s Role in Nation Building
Governor Seyi Makinde of Oyo State has reaffirmed the enduring relevance of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) as a tool for national unity, integration, and development.
The governor made the remarks on Friday during the swearing-in ceremony of the 2025 Batch B Stream 2 corps members at the NYSC Permanent Orientation Camp in Iseyin.
Makinde, represented by the Director of Youth Development, Alhaja Kuditat Mustapha, urged the corps members to approach the orientation programme with dedication. He emphasized that the activities, including physical training, leadership drills, lectures on national issues, and skills acquisition exercises, are designed to instil discipline, foster patriotism, and prepare participants for meaningful service.
“Your conduct and attitude during this service year will not only reflect your personal character but also your commitment to nation building,” Makinde said.
He further assured the corps members of the state government’s support, safety, and welfare measures throughout their service year. He encouraged them to take the Skills Acquisition and Entrepreneurship Development (SAED) programme seriously as a pathway to self-reliance and potential entrepreneurship.
“Many of your predecessors have become job creators through the skills acquired during their service year. You too can write your own success story,” the governor noted.
Makinde also urged corps members to embrace the culture of Oyo State, respect local customs, and contribute to community development, describing the oath of allegiance as a call to serve with loyalty and leave a lasting legacy.
Earlier, the NYSC State Coordinator, Mr Kayode Peters, commended Governor Makinde for his continuous support of youth empowerment initiatives in the state, which she said creates an enabling environment for the scheme to thrive. She advised corps members to maintain discipline, actively participate in all orientation activities, and uphold camp rules.
The oath of allegiance was administered by the Chief Judge of Oyo State, Justice Iyabo Yerima, represented by Justice M.O. Ishola, officially inducting the new corps members into the NYSC.
