Afenifire Urges Senate, AGF to Probe Natasha’s Allegations Against Akpabio

Afenifere Urges Senate, AGF to Probe Natasha’s Allegations Against Akpabio

The pan-Yoruba socio-political organisation, Afenifere, has called on the Senate and the office of the Attorney-General of the Federation (AGF) to determine the veracity of Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan’s allegations against Senate President Godswill Akpabio.

In a statement on Thursday, the group said the truth must be uncovered to set the record straight and uphold Nigeria’s image in the international community, noting that global media and parliaments have shown interest in the matter.

Senator Natasha had previously accused the Senate President of sexual harassment. Following the accusation, the Senate imposed a six-month suspension on her for breaching its rules. With the suspension now expired, Natasha has resumed her legislative duties.

Afenifere stressed that her reinstatement should not preclude a thorough investigation of her claims. “Restoring her position does not mean her allegations should be disregarded. The matter requires judicial interpretation to uncover the truth,” the group said.

The organisation urged the AGF, the Senate, and Nigeria’s security agencies to carry out a meticulous examination of the case.

This development follows Afenifere’s earlier call for a transparent investigation into the allegations, highlighting the need for fairness and justice in resolving the controversy.
