China-Nigeria Relations Reach New Milestone, Says Ambassador

The Chinese Ambassador to Nigeria, Yu Dunhai, has reaffirmed China’s commitment to strengthening its partnership with Nigeria, emphasizing the shared values of resilience and unity between the two nations. Speaking at a reception marking the 76th anniversary of the founding of the People’s Republic of China, Ambassador Yu commended Nigeria’s determination, citing the Super Falcons’ remarkable comeback as a testament to the nation’s spirit.

Ambassador Yu expressed China’s eagerness to collaborate with African countries, including Nigeria, to share development opportunities. He highlighted China’s readiness to deepen cooperation with Nigeria across various sectors, aligning with Nigeria’s ‘Renewed Hope’ agenda and its eight priority areas.

The Ambassador noted significant milestones in China-Nigeria relations, including President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s state visit to China, which elevated bilateral relations to a comprehensive strategic partnership. He also mentioned the completion of the Abuja Water Supply Project, which will provide clean water to nearly 3 million people, and the potential construction of Africa’s first local insulin production facility.

Ambassador Yu acknowledged Nigeria’s support for the one-China principle and its contributions to global governance reform, international fairness, and the collective interests of the Global South. He also expressed delight over Nigeria’s decision to introduce Chinese language studies into its senior secondary school curriculum, viewing it as an important bridge for deepening China-Nigeria friendship.

Senator Babangida Hussaini, speaking on behalf of the Nigerian government, congratulated China on its 76th anniversary and highlighted the enduring values of resilience, determination, and visionary leadership that have propelled China to its present heights. He emphasized the deep intertwining of Nigeria and China’s destinies, noting that both countries celebrate their national days on the same date, October 1st.

Senator Hussaini further underscored the comprehensive strategic partnership between Nigeria and China, defined by tangible outcomes in infrastructure, energy, agriculture, education, defense, trade, and investment. He expressed confidence that Nigeria’s 10-Year Development Plan and President Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda align naturally with China’s Belt and Road Initiative, opening new opportunities for growth and shared prosperity.

In conclusion, both Ambassador Yu and Senator Hussaini reaffirmed their commitment to deepening the bond of trust and mutual understanding between Nigeria and China, championing dialogue, cooperation, and mutual respect for a brighter and more prosperous future.
