Activist Calls for ICPC Probe of Ibas Over N283bn Rivers Funds

Activist Calls for ICPC Probe of Ibas Over N283bn Rivers Funds

Activist lawyer, Deji Adeyanju, has urged the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC) to investigate the immediate past Sole Administrator of Rivers State, Vice Admiral Ibok-Ete Ibas (retd.), over N283.3 billion allegedly collected during his six-month tenure.

In a petition addressed to the ICPC Chairman, Adeyanju alleged that Ibas failed to account for the huge funds allocated to the state while in office, adding that apart from cosmetic renovations at the State House of Assembly, no substantive projects were executed.

Adeyanju stated: “We petitioned ICPC to investigate former Rivers State Sole Administrator, Vice Admiral Ibok-Ete Ekwe Ibas (retd.), over the N283.3 billion he received in six months with virtually nothing to show for it. No accounts were published, and no transparency was offered. This is a clear case that demands urgent investigation and accountability as the people of Rivers State deserve to know how their money was spent.”

Ibas assumed office following the six-month suspension of Governor Sim Fubara. The activist insists that the probe is necessary to ensure transparency and restore public confidence in governance.
